Its not necessary to have a lift but it makes the
job a whole lot easier.
I wrote up this tutorial since I couldn't find one elsewhere on the Web. WWW.Lextreme.com has a nice tutorial
for the LS 400, however, the LS430 is substantially different. I think the LS400 is a non-interference motor
but the LS 430 is an interference motor. You definately don't want to wait for the timing belt to break. I
figured there are a few Lexus owners that maintain their own cars. The shop quote for labor alone was about
$1200. OEM parts are around $500. Aftermarket parts about half that. It is probably and 8 hour job for an
experienced technician. It is about a 12 hour job for an average shade-tree do-it-yourself guy. For a $100 an
hour I'll tackle this job. Below is a combination of the factory service manual along with photos to further clarify
the steps.
